MONK : Wright Fiction Archive

I attach to this memo an Excel spreadsheet that provides bibliographical information about the texts of the Wright Archive that exist in sufficiently curated form. Wright was a bibliographer who compiled a list of all American novels published between 1851 and 1875 or within a decade of the beginning and end of the Civil War. His bibliography served as the basis for a microfilm collecction. This collection was transcribed or OCR'd at Indiana University, and Perry Willett, now at Michigan, was the general editor of this project. There are some 2,800 texts in Wright. Close to 1,100 underwent some editing, both in terms of typographical and tag correction, after the original transcription. I was able to map 1,069 of these to bibliographical descriptions that I had. These texts are for all practical purposes in the public domain as far as non-commercial uses are concerned. I got these texts from Indiana yesterday. I think versions of them are on the UIUC server, but I thought it would be helpful to have a bibliography that tells a little about the nature of these data. |
