Present: Matt Kirschenbaum, Martin Mueller, Catherine Plaisant, Steve Ramsay, Stan Ruecker

Matt reported on the trip by Neil Fraistat, John Unsworth, and himself to Google and the Internet Archive, which was useful and informative for all sides.

There was general agreement that the June 7-8 meeting had been very successful in articulating agreement about the general direction of Monk as well as about next steps.

We had a free-ranging discussion about analytics. There appears to be an emerging consensus that for Search operations, ranging from the simple to the complex, will be an important use case for all users, and the major use case for many users. Whether in a humanities environment such procedures can be usefully distinguished from 'analytics' in a narrower sense is an open question.

Stan introduced the concept of 'default guidance'. The functionalities of Monk are unlikely to be strictly ordered in a sequential or hierarchical manner. But first-time users should be given clear signals about where to start.

The conference call adjourned at 9:40.
