Should we define a Submission Information Package? What should it include? Is Nora Chunk file it?

There have been various discussions about specification for texts submitted to MONK. Some of the metadata associated with texts may be obtained, managed, or referenced externally from the file that contains the text. This technique was used in Nora with the 'chunk' file and in Wordhoard with various xml files. Borrowing from the commonly referenced OAIS repository model terminology, this is often refered to as a SIP (Submission Information Package). Perhaps we should generalize our input specification discussions by considering what a MONK SIP might usefully contain. We might be able to accommodate and usefully characterize input texts with a variety of capabilities in this way.

BTW, other useful distinctions in the OAIS model are AIP (Archival Information Package) which refers to the repository internal format for the item and DIP (Dissemination Information Package) which refers to the (potentially many) possible dissemination views and formats for the item. The OAIS model usefully separates SIP, AIP, and DIP expressions and the various concerns each address.
