Introduction

Based on requirements of MONK, we evaluated FLEX/Openlaszlo (Flash based) and GWT/ZK (DHTML and javascript) based approaches. We also did a preliminary investigations/survey comparing a lot of other technologies https://apps.lis.uiuc.edu/wiki/display/MONK/Survey+of+Ajax+Technologies

Conclusions

-We concluded

  1. A single technology is not a solution for MONK.
  2. MONK will use widgets in different technologies woven in DHTML.
  3. Text rotation (three/two dimension) and animation are best done using flash.
  4. Visualization of large number of data points is very slow in flash and comparatively better in dhtml.
  5. OpenLaszlo does not have good text formatting and DHTML display capability.
