MONK : Book of English, 1473-1923
This page last changed on Apr 14, 2008 by martinmueller@northwestern.edu.
The Book of English, 1473-1923 is the working title for a proposal to the NEH, which will be due in mid-July. A full draft proposal should go to the NEH no later than early May. The maximum budget for the proposal is $500,000. This proposal has grown out of the MONK experience and is best seen as an attempt to generalize and extend everything in MONK that happens before ingestion of texts into the data store. The three attachments to this document give an overwiew of where we now stand. The first is an early draft of the proposal designed for a joint application to IMLS-NEH. We were advised that this proposal had a better chance if it went to the NEH division of Preservation and Access. Much of this draft is now obsolete, but some of the general language may survive. The second document is an attempt on my part to divide tasks and responsibilities by breaking the proposal into modules. The third document is almost certainly the most useful for subsequent discussion. It is Phil Burns' analysis of various technical challenges that will be faced. This project will depend critically on the cooperation of Amit, Brian, James, Phil, Steve, and Tim. I am for the time being the coordinator and grant writer. Read and comment. |
