Present: Matt K., Catherine, John, Stan, Matt B., James, Bill, Stefan Agenda Logging Feature Discussion Matt and Catherine offered the following additions to Stan's tools list: Things users might want to do with the output of these tools: Annotate it Discussion of role of Collaboration cell: Matt pointed to scant resources (no development, majority of people's time committed elsewhere on project) and difficulty in thinking about collaboration in the absence of working stuff to collaborate on. Requested discussion of the cell's role in project and how it might work more effectively with other cells. General consensus that the cell has value and should not be mothballed. Should look for opportunities where collaboration might return maximum gain for minimal effort; keep us from reinventing the wheel. Bill described his work using Zotero to annotate chunks. Requested feedback. Stefan suggested every other cell should have a collaboration ambassador/advocate (early example: Matt's request for history/state logging in interface cell). This seems to be the case, especially if we assume Martin in this role for Analytics. John suggested specifically that the cell might focus its efforts on collaboration with Fedora Commons and/or DLF Aquifer. Suggested a conference call with Thorny Staples. Matt suggested that might actually point the way to a productive reconfiguring of the cell's calls, with a schedule of rotating guests. People to ask would include Thorny, Martin Wattenberg (ManyEyes), and Dan Cohen (Zotero). This was met with general enthusiasm. Last, Stan briefly described work on logging tool to come out of hackfest. Actions and Outcomes Matt will arrange calls with guests, starting with Thorny Staples. Every other Thursday at 10:00 CST will remain our default meeting time, though external schedules may complicate that. Matt will schedule future calls with Dorlene. We need to take a closer look at Bill's work on Zotero. Volunteers? (Matt K.) |
