6-1-07 Interface Cell Minutes

Attending:

Andrew, Mike, Carlos, Amit, Stefan, Stan

Upcoming NORA Video Demo:

  • Mike and Andrew are looking at Catherine's bug list (Monday June 3 deadline).

Technology Evaluation:

  • Look at 3 good candidates:
    • Adobe Flex
    • ZUL
    • Yahoo Web Toolkit
  • Based on video from Piotr's Flash demo of moving 2D text.
  • This will allow us to compare performace of the different technologies using similar conditions.
  • In addition to what the video shows, we want to test:
    • More text (which technology can handle the most?).
    • Bold, italic and so on.
    • Font change (maybe serif and sans - change every second line to test this?).
    • Can we maintain paragraph spacing?
    • Can we display text in different language sets (maybe cyrillic or something)?
  • To be finished by midnight Wednesday, June 5.

Passing Data:

  • XML or JSON will be good choices.
  • Amit feels JSON is lighter weight than XML and it should provide better performance (although it might be more difficult to debug).

Potential Visualization Projects:

  • Andrew has been working on a Java xPath viewer. Coming soon...
