5-4-07 Interface Cell Minutes

Attending:

Andrew, Mike, Catherine, Carlos, Amit, Stefan, Stan

Current NORA Problems:

  • Feature list bug with tri-grams (returns the same word repeatedly - this may be incorrect).
  • Amit: Current graph is not helpful? Remove?

Java Plugins for Nora:

  • Will they work in IE and future Mozilla builds?
    • Stefan: Yes, in most cases...
    • Looking into it.

Nora Future Plans:

  • Should this be an experiment / proof of concept or a useful tool?
    • Catherine: Probably some combination of both.
  • Amit would like to have some Wordhoard features in the Nora demo (i.e. DHTML display).
    • How much of Wordhoard should be there should be use case driven...
  • Stefan: Monk will no longer make sense without us meeting the minimum X, Y, Z requirements. Build these features first, then consider adding other extras (such as W!).
    • How do we decide X, Y, Z?
    • Use cases.

Centralization of Data / New Collections:

  • Amit: There are some problems getting access to all collections, but most are available.
    • There are still issues in the back-end that need to be worked out to deal with new collections (i.e. what data is 'Norable' / 'Monkable'?).
  • Data categories required:
    • Sentimentality.
    • Graphing.
    • Repetition.
  • Amit: To add new collections, we need formatting info, etc. to make them 'Norable'.
    • Once the data is here, what sort of questions do we want to answer?
    • What are the features that the user will want to use?
  • Put new collections in and go from there.

Next Interface Meeting:

  • Should we have an interface huddle?
    • Stan: Next one will probably be in Canada (July / August).
    • Amit will need time to implement back-end features that will need to be ready for this meeting.
  • Revisit in DH...
    • Maybe stay an extra day on the 9th (Saturday) or early on the 5th?

Manpower Issues:

  • Stefan: Would it be more productive to have an hour or two every week to separate talks on interface design and technical issues of interface design (i.e. once the design is right, we will implement it).
    • Stan: There should be some coupling of the two groups...
  • There may be a need for more manpower.
    • Supercell will talk more about resources.

Talk again in two weeks (Friday, May 18th)
